Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the information come from?
All data comes from public sources: NCSO computer-aided dispatch, TPD press logs, Caltrans, the National Weather Service, EPA AirNow, USGS, TDPUD's outage map, and publicly broadcast scanner radio traffic.
How often is the site updated?
The site rebuilds automatically throughout the day.
Is the scanner information confirmed?
No — and this matters. Scanner summaries reflect unconfirmed radio traffic as initially dispatched. Details often change as responders arrive on scene, and some incidents turn out to be nothing. Treat scanner items as "something may be happening here," not as verified fact. Truckee Reports is not a substitute for official emergency notifications — sign up for those through Nevada County and Placer County alert systems.
Why do some incidents show outside Truckee proper?
Some radio channels we monitor, like the regional fire dispatch channel, cover a wider zone including North Lake Tahoe communities. We include them because Truckee fire resources are dispatched on that channel.
I saw an error. How do I report it?
Use the contact page. Corrections are taken seriously and fixed fast.
Is this an official government service?
No. Truckee Reports is independent and has no affiliation with any agency whose public data it aggregates.
How is this funded?
Reader support only — no ads, no sponsors. The Support button at the top of the page goes to a pay-what-you-want contribution.
